    Frequently Asked Questions

The Rex by SOCKBOX Design Club is your chance to let us know what you want on our socks, and maybe the opportunity to see it produced. We’re hoping to see thousands of amazing designs and interact with all of you in a way we wouldn’t otherwise. That said, we do sometimes take holiday time, so we created this FAQ to answer some of your questions during this busy time. If you don’t find your question here, please leave a comment and we’ll add it!

How much does it cost to join the design club?

Absolutely nothing. Joining the design club is free!

Who is eligible to submit a design?

Any person under the age of 18 at time of submission, anywhere in the world can submit a design (except where prohibited by law)! If you are under 13, a parent or legal guardian must submit your entry. This club is international and open to select ages!

Where do I submit my design?

You can both download your submission form and submit your finished design here: sockbox.ca/rex/design-club. Or, you can mail entries to: 612 – 500 Country Hills Blvd NE , Suite 110, Calgary, Alberta T3K 5K3

    When are submissions due?

We are accepting ongoing submissions beginning December 1, 2020

    How many can I submit?

That depends on how many designs you have. There’s no limit to the number of designs you can submit.

How many colours are allowed per design?

There is a limit of 6 colours per design, however we prefer a 5 colour design. If a sock with more than 6 colours makes it through the selection process, we’ll need to adjust the design for production. Our team will be using this preference when making selections because our socks are best created with no more than 6 colours. Black and white are counted as colours.

    What can I win?

Designers who have a design submission chosen for production will receive a production pair of their design, plus other promotion at the discretion of SOCKBOX.

How does the selection criteria work?

The SOCKBOX team reviews submissions on an ongoing basis.

All selections will be based on the following guidelines:

    1. Simplicity of design
    2. Use of a maximum of six colours
    3. Use of colours that are flat and solids, NO shading, blending or half tones
    4. Use of pattern
    5. Use of imagery, themes, patterns, or designs that are different from our current line
    6. Originality

What if my design isn’t chosen initially, but you want to produce it at some point?

Any socks produced, are created with the artist’s permission and are compensated as above.

If I submit an entry, do you own the rights to the design?

No. Submission entries will not be sent back to you, but we don’t own the rights to submitted designs: you do. We reserve the right to use your designs for promotional purposes promoting our design club, without compensation.

    What about copyright?

We take copyright and plagiarism very seriously. If it’s determined that your design isn’t original, your entry will be immediately void. Cheating isn’t cool.

Why does the design club exist?

More importantly, why not? Rex by SOCKBOX is still new, and we admittedly want to do things differently for the kids. The kids of SOCKBOX employees only want to design so many socks (and they’ve designed a lot). This design club is an opportunity for our fans to participate in the process, and an opportunity for us to see directly from our fans, what they think would be cool on a sock. Not to mention, a great way to occupy kids away from screen time.

If my design wins, will I get a pair of my socks?

Yes. Once they are produced, we will send you a pair of your designed sock. It takes a while for socks to get produced, so you’ll need to wait and exercise your patience.

Do you have suggestions for designs?

It’s best to avoid complex details or gradients as these are difficult to translate onto a sock. You can design any style you want (crew, knee high, etc.), though that might get changed during production. Rex by SOCKBOX is targeted to children aged 5-12.

Can more than one of my designs be chosen to be produced?

Yes. You can submit however many designs you would like.

Are there official terms & conditions for this design club?

Good question! You can find them all here: Official Design Club Terms & Conditions

Official Design Club Terms & Conditions

All of these criteria are preferences that will be used during all rounds of selection. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by the Official Design Club Terms & Conditions and the decisions of the team, which shall be final and binding in all respects. Odds of selection depend on the total number of eligible entries received. Designer (or in the case of children under 13, his or her parent, teacher, or legal guardian) will be notified via email, and/or telephone.

    4. COMPENSATION: The designer of each design selected for production will receive at minimum one production pair of the chosen Rex by SOCKBOX design, plus any additional promotional or compensation at the discretion of SOCKBOX.
